Entrance to La Casa Rosa is through a very attractive garden, a large parking area and a fairly unpromising façade (which turns out to be the back of the villa rather than the front). Immediately you enter the villa, however, and no matter how well you have been prepared by website photographs and picture postcards sent by the owners, you will catch your breath at the fantastic transformation. Open the front door and instantly you look out beyond the bright and beautiful lounge, beyond the well-furnished patio, beyond the large swimming pool, to an uninterrupted view across a lovely bay to the Peñon d’Ifach, a huge rock arching 300-metres (1000ft.) out of the Mediterranean and into the vaulting sky. Connected by a narrow isthmus is Calpe, whose bustling buildings – the two most recent are 26-storeys high – are utterly dwarfed by the majestic Peñon.
That’s the first surprise.

When you reserved the villa you were told it could accommodate up to 16 adults and two babes in cots. So, having regained your breath from that first view, you now set about organising the rooms. But this villa has only one level, so where are all the bedrooms? That’s the second surprise. Five large bedrooms, two bathrooms, one en-suite shower room, a kitchen and a lovely large lounge-

dining room, are all contained in this splendidly-curved yet unostentatious home. The two biggest bedrooms each hold double beds and a single bed and still have space for a cot! The other three rooms all have twin beds. Not only the visitors are astonished. Avner and Prunella, the owners, have been constantly surprised by the popularity, amongst young and old alike, of the villa’s best-kept secret – Bedroom 2. Situated invisibly behind Bedroom 1, to enter it one must duck quite low so as not to hit one’s head.

Another surprise, especially after driving past hundreds of villas situated on slopes, with winding stairs to be ascended, is the fact that the ground at La Casa Rosa is virtually level. From the gate to the front door, right through the villa and out

onto the patio, it’s level. Then it’s three steps down to the pool. The Family Suite is down a mild slope.
Once the group-members have selected their rooms, deposited their luggage, examined the breathtaking view, rejoiced in the quiet environment, and noted the utter privacy of the villa. it’s time to go to the shops and stock up for the stay.
Lo and behold, here’s another surprise. The highest-quality supermarket on the Costa Blanca is only 100 metres from La Casa Rosa, past a large yet quiet Spanish restaurant, and directly opposite a bank, a chemist, two bars and three restaurants. Within 300 metres are another six restaurants (of five nationalities) as well as several more bars and a host of shops.
The nearest beach, visible from the villa, is only 350 metres away
